Asbury Park, New Jersey
The Asbury Park Power House is located just south of the Casino building on the Boardwalk in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It was constructed during the same period as the neighboring prominent ocean front buildings. The Power House is a steel-framed building with a masonry façade and a tower that is almost one hundred feet high. The highly ornamental art deco building served as the primary source of energy for all of the other buildings along the Boardwalk until quite recently. The building is now vacant and has undergone partial demolition, abatement, and a new roofing campaign.
The building is in poor condition. An extended period without maintenance has significantly impacted the structural framing. The building is not water-tight, the entire masonry façade needs repointing, and several cracks require pinning. Structurally, the steel framing is corroded and is physically pushing the masonry outwards from the building.
SCOPE OF SERVICE
We conducted on-site investigations in the fall of 2007 to inspect, photograph, and document the building components. We prepared a Conditions Assessment Report that addressed the roofing, drainage, exterior finishes, fenestration, and structural members.
We provided our observations and analysis along with our recommendations for stabilizing the Power House building. No improvements have been made to date.
